Petőfi square

The church with its lance steeple is a remarkable sight on Petőfi square.  Based on Frigyes Hetzel's designs the church was built from public subscription in 1929-31. The 43,000 pengő (Hungarian currency at the time) was collected by the congregation that, in the two centuries preceding the 20th grew from 50 to 350 people. All the artifacts, the benches, the chandelier and the altar cloth were collected and donated by the congregation. The plot on which the church was built was donated by the town council. The church was ready in 16 months. The interior arrangement of the building is made in the Paleochristian bezant style, the altar picture shows the praying Jesus Christ. The picture is Izabella Farádi Veres' work of art.  The 250 kg church bell was ready five years after the inauguration and the organ was built only 50 years following the inauguration. The night lights were donated by the town council in 2000.
